WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING?

Volunteering is a great way to give something back to the community, meet new people, learn new skills and strengthen your CV. And, what’s more, we can give you a great reference for future employers.

WHO VOLUNTEERS FOR DOCTORS OF THE WORLD UK?

We welcome people from all walks of life. People who volunteer with us are often those who have an interest in healthcare and helping people in need. Our volunteers include both medical and non-medical professionals, as well as students.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO GIVE?

The commitment required differs from role to role. Take a look at our different roles to see how much commitment each involves and choose the one that suits you best.

I’M NOT A BRITISH NATIONAL, CAN I VOLUNTEER IN THE UK?

There are no restrictions on people volunteering from the European Union (EU). Volunteers from outside the EU (including refugees and asylum seekers) need to have an appropriate visa or confirmation that they are able to work in this country.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

Most of our roles require some specific skills or experience. It will be clearly stated in the role description if a role requires you to have particular skills. Current positions are listed here.

WHAT TRAINING AND SUPPORT WILL I BE GIVEN?

All volunteers have a Doctors of the World staff member who they can go to for help and support. There are also often more experienced volunteers to offer advice to new members of the team. You’ll also be provided with an induction and a Volunteer Handbook.

CAN I CLAIM EXPENSES?

Yes. We’ll reimburse travel up to £10 per day and food up to £5, if necessary.

DOES DOCTORS OF THE WORLD OFFER SHORT-TERM POSITIONS?

Not usually. Most of our volunteering opportunities require a commitment of 3-6 months.

HOW DO I VOLUNTEER AT THE DOCTORS OF THE WORLD CLINIC?

Recruitment for all our opportunities is done via our website.
